At hearing “Das Lied von der Erde” I pinned a photo of my favorite bass-baritone on my office wall. When he got married, I tore it in half. One day he arrived (surprise!) to say, “I heard I’m in trouble.”

  3. Unfortunately, he popped out of my office just as quickly as he’d popped in. But that little moment was so much fun. He obviously has a great sense of humor. After posting this entry, I visited his website. It has a section to leave messages, so I left one. I doubt he’ll remember the incident (especially now that he’s over 80), but I hope he’ll enjoy reading about it.

I should explain to you both that my office was in Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center, which explains how he came to hear about the torn photo. It would be really amazing if I’d worked on Wall Street. 🙂
